She attended her girlfriend's party this weekend bearing this critter as a gift.
I asked her more than once:
Are you sure?
This is OK with her mom?
You're sure, right?
Really? Because we're NOT keeping it.
Yes, it really was OK. She and a friend collaborated to surprise the birthday girl, who turned 14.

At least there is only one. I was given 2 allegedly female hamsters as a gift in college. Several months later, there were hamsterettes. They lasted only a few days, though. Turns out hamsters eat their own young.
